Kathy's Dance
You daintily danced through your life
As though it were a never ending dawn.
Even when days were filled with strife
Your gaiety was that of a newborn fawn.
You lived a life as resplendent
As a garden for the growth of roses.
You chose to remain independent
Of restraints society often imposes.
You've been my mother, been my friend,
Teaching me things that no one else would.
We'd reverse these roles in the end,
A transition I fully understood.
You came to live with me at the last,
Sharing laughter as well as tears.
Tales were told of your colorful past
As we rekindled memories of many years.
Nathan, Jesse and I would give all
To lessen your discomfort and pain.
Awaiting your final curtain call
It was hard not to be driven insane.
You delicately danced to your death
Anticipating a last setting sun
And when you exhaled your last breath
My duty as your daughter was done.
