Homeward Bound

I’ve walked many a mile in this old pair o’ shoes
I’ve more than paid double my life’s union dues
While endurin' more than my share o' domestic abuse
Still I linger at the edge with no reasons nor clues
As to why everything I love in my life I must lose.

I’ve not been an evil person on the face o’ this earth
Never felt anyone owed me for the gift o’ my birth
Yet I’ve been made to feel that my life has no worth
Livin' with the past and the future a tightenin' girth
Wonderin' if my life pleasures will be unendin' dearth.

I’ll continue my days wanderin' ‘round and ‘round
Wearin' out the soles o’ my feet upon the dead ground
Swimmin' for survival in a sea where many have drowned
Awaitin' the rays o’ my spirit to glow homeward bound
Where lastin' peace for my soul shall forever be found.
