March SBI Poetry Challenge

I was hoping for nuttin' but sunshine as I left the house that day
But all I saw was dark clouds and raindrops come my way.

Just then I heard a strange bird cry out, and wondered what it was
Then I noticed the big elm out back was filled with birds all abuzz.

My curiosity got the best of me, so out back I strolled
I was not prepared for the sight I did behold.

The tree was occupied by every bird I could name
And underneath it stood the biggest one, I thought I’d gone insane!

They were singing “Happy Birthday “and at first I was in awe
How could I hear and understand, instead of just  hearing caws?

Big Bird raised his huge wing and waved at me, then pointed to the tree
"Today is March 20, a very special day indeed."

"It’s my birthday, and we have a lovely cake to share
It’s made from Organic fresh baked seeds."

I squeaked out a “good for you.” And an “excuse me please.”
“I’m going back to bed. This weathers not for me."

I hurried to my bed and fell fast asleep, in my quilt filled with down.
I did not know if it was a dream or just someone being a clown.

I saw the sun was shining, so I dug out all my quilts
And took them out to air them on the line old and frayed.

Then stood back to admire my Ray O' Quilts
and the beautiful portrait that they made

I slipped in something very shiny and when I looked to see
It was a pile of shells from freshly cooked and cracked seeds!

Now I am a believer I just choose not to tell or think
I just write the unbelievable in my book, ”Sun Bespeckled Ink”
