Our 1st Challenge

Since each of our work
will be posted on a page,
I think we should start off with something
that tells a little bit about ourselves.
Keep in mind,
it can take any form and does not have to be a poem.

All About Me

I was born in the year 1941
Sydney, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.
Spending 40 years
of my life there before moving
here to Thunder Bay, Ontario in 1981.
I met and married my late husband
on the Island.
He died in 1997 at the age of 54.
All four of our children were born in
Cape Breton as well.
Three of them are in Thunder Bay
and I have one Daughter in Texas.
I now live alone with my cat
Dusty - he is the man of the house, LOL.

Challenge Prompt - The WHERE I'M FROM

I am from the ocean out of the
water droplets from the heavens,
from sea breeze and salt air.

I am from the old tradition of moral upbringing
where all the small things in life mean
a lot and the simple life of God, family and friends,
these all are on top priority and the material things come after.

I am from the dandelion in all its beauty
against the green grass,
the plant that springs back to life even after bent in the wind.

I am from the coal mines and steel plant,
uncle Jimmy and uncle Tom and grandpa George.

I am from the old school and proud of it and hope
to set examples for my grandchildren to follow.

From love of others and share all the love you can.
I am from Catholic Church. The home of our heavenly father.
I'm from Grandpa's bed where I was born, lobster and scallops.

From the rabbit snare uncle Eausa,
the delicious rabbit pie aunt Mary, and the pastry aunt Annie.

I am from Cabot Trail scenic wonderment of Nova Scotia
and of course shore line beaches of the
Alantic Ocean in all majestic glory.

Prompt & Response - August 2007

What piece of advice would you offer to other writers,
especially those afraid to put their feelings into words?

What do you consider to be your greatest asset as a writer?
Your greatest liability?

Who do you admire the most in the world of writing?

How does, or did, this person inspire you?

----------

So don't be afraid, let your words be known,
You are not to fear, as you're never alone.
Readers will be added, more each time,
They will love the flow of your rhyme.
Never fear, what others may say,
Just write each word, for the Lord each day.
Like everything else, the more you write,
The more words will come forthright.
If only one reader you writing will be read,
Be sure to try, just send it widespread.
Let your fingers write your innermost feelings,
Putting your thought from within wheeling.

**************************************************

My greatest asset for my writing is the help I get from the Lord.
I write for him and let my words be guided through Him.
I feel like that is what helps me express myself to the best that I can
Remember everyone does not have the same best each one of us has our own.

I admire all the writers in my writing group
who give it their all each and every day.
They work hard and one day I know it will all pay off for them.

They inspire me to continue to write
by all their comments and interest in my writing.
They take the time out from their busy days to help support me
in my attempts at writing and this means so much.
They make known ways that I can improve and are so helpful.
We all have a great time together and are always there for each other.
I would not be doing what I do without them as they are so full of encouragement.
